Whatsapp Not Support These iPhone 3GS, Older iPhone Model

WhatsApp to No Longer Support iPhone 3GS, Older iPhone Models
  • iOS 12 was released earlier this week
  • WhatsApp has updated its FAQ page for iPhone
  • iOS 7.1.2 is the last version supported, and has limitations
iOS 12 is out, and just days later it is being learnt that WhatsApp won't work on iOS versions prior to iOS 7.1.2. While the company has not updated its end-of-support blog post since June this year, when it announced iOS 7 and earlier versions will not be supported from February 1, 2020, it has since published a new FAQ section detailing the latest changes to version support. Users on iOS 7.1.2 - the last version of iOS 7 - will also have some limitations to how they can use the app, the company detailed, saying only users on versions iOS 8 and above will have full functionality for now.

To be specific, the Facebook-owned messaging service on its new FAQ section for supported iPhone devices says that "WhatsApp for iPhone requires iOS 8 or later." It adds that if users have WhatsApp active on devices running iOS 7.1.2, they will be able to use the app until February 1, 2020, however, they will not be able to create new accounts or reverify existing accounts. It reiterates that WhatsApp is not supported on iOS 6 and older versions.

The move won't affect too many users, except those with devices that received no updates after iOS 7.1.2 - specifically, the iPhone 4, released back in 2010. As WhatsApp explains, these users will no longer be able to add new accounts, or reverify existing accounts, but otherwise, if the app is already active on their device, it will work. The model prior to that, the iPhone 3GS (released back in 2009) didn't receive an update after iOS 6.1.6 (released in February 2014), and is no longer supported by WhatsApp. The same is the case of the iPhone 3G (released back in 2008) and the original iPhone (released back in 2007). The iPhone 4S (released in 2011), which received iOS 8.4.1 (released in October 2015) as its last update, still retains full functionality, despite being 7 years old. iOS 7.1.2 was released back in July 2014.

iOS 12, the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system that was released on September 17, is compatible with iPhone 5S (released in 2013) and newer models only. As per Apple's developer page, where iOS adoption figures were last updated on September 3, 85 percent of active devices are running iOS 11, while 10 percent are running iOS 10, and 5 percent are running older versions. This would imply that while a minority, users running versions earlier than iOS 10 may still number in the millions.

PlayStation Now Update Brings PS2 and PS4 Game Downloads to PS4

  • PS Now is Sony's game streaming service
  • The update for PS2 and PS4 game downloads will roll out in a few days
  • PS3 games can't be downloaded on PS4 via PS Now just yet
Sony has finally announced that its game streaming service PlayStation Now (PS Now) will finally support PS2 and PS4 game downloads on PS4. While PS3 games are a part of PlayStation Now, it doesn't seem like Sony has found a way to allow them to be played as a download just yet. Odd considering the first leak of PlayStation Now supporting game downloads showed off Alpha Protocol, a PS3 game. Perhaps the architectural differences between the PS3 and PS4 have a part to play in this? Nonetheless, Sony has also confirmed that any downloadable content (DLC), micro-transactions, or multiplayer content will remain accessible for PS Now games downloaded on PS4. This update will be gradually rolled out to PlayStation Now subscribers "over the next couple of days" Sony claims.

"Downloaded PS Now games will support all user-purchased DLCs, micro-transactions, and add-ons, as well as PS4 Pro enhancements for subscribers using a PS4 Pro system," reads a post from Brian Dunn, Senior Marketing Manager for PlayStation Now on the PlayStation blog. "And remember, you do not need a PlayStation Plus membership for online multiplayer on PS Now which stays the same for both streaming and downloaded games."

Much like Netflix, Spotify, and other streaming services, you'll need to connect your PS4 system to the internet every few days to verify your PS Now subscription, even if youre only playing downloaded games Sony confirms. This development makes PlayStation Now feasible in markets like India. It remains to be seen if PlayStation Now will be made available in India. Gadgets 360 has requested Sony India for comment and we'll update this story if we hear from the company.

With PS2 and PS4 games on PlayStation Now available as downloads on PS4, it's just a matter of time before Sony brings over its back catalogue from the PS1, PSP, and hopefully existing PS3 games as digital downloads soon enough, putting the infamous quote from a Sony executive around E3 2015 to rest.

"When we've dabbled with backwards compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used much," said Sonys Head of Global Sales and Marketing Jim Ryan in an interview. "That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?"

How to Take Measurements and Check Levels Using iOS 12's New Measure App

The Measure app allows you to measure the distance between two points and the dimensions of certain objects. Weve seen similar apps on the App Store for a while, but the iOS 12 Measure app has been designed by Apple and ships with the latest version of iOS. This makes it far more likely to be used by people for measurements. We used the Measure app with a whole bunch of objects in our house with generally positive results. Before you use the Measure app, please do keep in mind that its likely to work better with iPhone 8 and newer iPhones, where cameras are better optimised for AR. We tested the app with iPhone 7 and the results were pretty good, but not 100 percent accurate. We arent ready to throw out our measuring tape just yet, but iOS 12s Measure app is a reliable backup for measurements in case the tape isnt around.
